Krakakoa believe that some of the best quality products in the world can be found in Indonesia. They believe that farmers need to make a good living from the hard work that they do. They believe that the environment needs to be protected. Krakakoa’s mission is to put their beliefs into action by changing the way food production systems impact people and the planet, starting with cocoa.
So when you take a bite of Krakakoa chocolate, you are experiencing their commitment to quality and artisanal craftsmanship — commitment to giving you the goodness of the Archipelago.
Founded in 2013, Krakakoa wants to make it clear to the world that their chocolate is proudly Indonesian. Even though Indonesia is the world's third-largest producer of cocoa, in quality they cannot compete with other cocoa-producing countries. Indonesian farmers are not well-educated in the cocoa fermentation process, which results in poor tasting unfermented beans. That’s where Krakakoa steps in. As a craft “farm-to-bar” chocolate company, Krakakoa engages with smallholder cocoa farmers directly to increase the quantity and quality of their harvest. They only work with small organic farms that practice sustainable farming methods, and their partner farmers are paid more than the fairtrade minimum price for their harvest.
